The Story of Apeks Supercritical
Apeks Supercritical was founded in 2001 by Andy Joseph, a US Navy veteran and a two-time Navy Achievement Medal recipient as an enlisted nuclear propulsion mechanic. While on board, Andy learned the core principles of mechanical operation for all nuclear and support plant systems, machining, welding, and of course, discipline. No one makes it through the Nuclear Navy without understanding two words – integrity and discipline. Those words demonstrate how the US Navy has never had a reactor accident in the 60 years that nuclear reactors have been on ships and submarines. This experience continues to be the foundation for all the CO2 extraction systems that we design and build.
For the last 20 years, Apeks Supercritical has been continually designing, refining, and manufacturing botanical oil extraction systems utilizing subcritical and supercritical CO2 — a cleaner, safer, purer, and faster way to extract plant oils. Constructed by a team of experienced engineers and fabricators, our systems range from the introductory level Bambino® right through to high output, large scale extraction systems such as The Force®.
Our story started with a vision to provide a cleaner, safer and more efficient way to extract high quality botanical oils and this mission continues. We embrace a pioneering spirit and dedication to our craft to meet the evolving needs of our industry. We remain relentless in our pursuit of new technologies and methods to provide processing solutions that allow our customers to succeed in their endeavours. Our innovative spirit, perseverance and commitment to forging relationships for the long haul, guides us day in and day out. If there is a better way to do things, we will find it and blaze a new trail.
Full Service Offering
In late 2019, Apeks Supercritical was acquired by Gibraltar Industries, and a few months later in February of 2020, Apeks joined forces with Delta Separations to deliver the most versatile and innovative extraction equipment and systems on the market today.
In late 2020, Founder Andy Joseph retired from the company to focus on his family and tinkering on cars at home. He remains engaged with Apeks in a consultancy capacity.
Together with Delta Separations we form the “Processing” part of Gibraltar’s larger umbrella “Growing & Processing Solutions” to offer a range of efficient, high-quality extraction systems, including CO2 and ethanol for a variety of applications including cannabis, botanical oils, and nutraceuticals.
We also joined with vertically integrated growing providers to deliver full “soil to oil” capabilities including greenhouse companies Rough Brothers Incorporated (RBI), Nexus, and Thermo Energy Solutions.
